An Inside Look at Our Vibrant Lunar New Year 2025 Celebration

Updated: Mar 19

Last year, BELIFT marked Lunar New Year with a celebration right in our office. It was not just for our team, but also for our clients and partners who have been part of our journey.

The celebration was extra meaningful as it gave everyone a chance to not only soak in the festivities but also get a first look at our new office space. It was a time of reunion, fresh starts, and opening our doors to our wider ecosystem.

This year, we chose to celebrate Lunar New Year a little differently. Instead of hosting a larger-scale event, we kept things more intimate, focusing on the people who drive BELIFT forward every day — our team.

With busy schedules and projects running at full speed, it is not often that the whole team can gather in one place. This celebration was our way of taking a pause, looking back on the past year, and setting the tone for 2025. The highlight of the afternoon was the tossing of the lo hei, a tradition that brings everyone around the table for a moment of shared excitement and good wishes for the year ahead.

Tossing Up Good Fortune and Fresh Ideas for the Year Ahead

Lo hei itself holds deep meaning in Singapore’s Lunar New Year celebrations. The phrase “lo hei” comes from Cantonese, meaning “tossing up good fortune”. It is a practice built around the salad called yusheng, every ingredient in the salad carries an auspicious meaning, each symbolising a wish for the year ahead. For us, three of these meanings stood out this year, as they mirror our own values as a company.

The first is prosperity, represented by the raw fish in the salad. This symbol of abundance aligns with BELIFT’s vision of setting new standards in urban mobility. We see prosperity not just in financial success, but in the wealth of ideas and collaborations we aim to foster in 2025.

Then there is growth, symbolised by the shredded carrots. That one hits close to home because we are always trying to improve whether it is designing better lifts, using smarter tech, or finding new ways to make life easier for the people who use our lifts. And finally, there is togetherness, shown through the sesame seeds sprinkled over the salad. This one means a lot because it is really how we work. Every person plays a part in making BELIFT what it is today.

Each toss of the lo hei carried these aspirations into the air, blending tradition with the future we are building together. At BELIFT, these meanings are more than symbolic. They are part of how we intend to every project, partnership, opportunity to elevate urban movement in Singapore and beyond.
